Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction in all subjects within the COMMAS, and all papers and thesis work must be written in English. All applicants must present evidence of their ability to carry on their studies in English by submitting either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score reports.

Only official TOEFL or IELTS score reports are accepted. Photocopies of reports cannot be used under any circumstances.

1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

A minimum score of 80 (out of 120, IBT) is required. The COMMAS reporting code for TOEFL is 4573. All the information regarding the test can be seen on the TOEFL homepage. International students applying for graduate admission are encouraged to take the TOEFL no later than December 31st. Students wishing to take the test after that date might not being able to submit the scores prior to the application due date for COMMAS.

2. International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

A minimum score of 6.5 is required. IELTS exam measures ability to communicate in English across all four language skills — listening, reading, writing, and speaking — for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication.
