The aim of this course is to provide the student with a working knowledge for the modelling of metallic materials typically encountered in engineering design and analysis.
This course is an extension of the subject matter covered in the metals section of the "Engineering Materials" course, however, this course focuses on understanding and predicting materials behaviour. Emphasis will be placed on plasticity-based approaches for analysis, on the mechanical behaviour including creep, the influences of notches and on the impact of damage and fracture in metals. Examples and tasks will be given for each of the topics.
